description from ad infinitum (Fuck John J Clark) text:
“ad infinitum (Fuck John J Clark) situates the field recordings of White Men Talking with the photographic series Fuck John J Clark.Highlighting the unending process of observing and becoming, through the projection of our own image upon significant cultural and geographical sites in the “American West.” A picture of the grove that’s home to the world’s oldest living (non-clonal) tree, or of delighted tourist posing for selfies in front of Lake Mead overlap with field recordings of people slurping coffee, one of the colonial era’s prevailing contemporary commodities, and surviving fuel. The setting sun overlooks a pensive child, ready to sled down a gypsum dune in White Sands National Park. Jim Carrey wonders aloud what would happen if he “decided to just, be Jesus.” Encounters of surveillance, entitlement, and intimate moments of various kin reveal our attempts at ‘enlightenment.’ The interplay considers the semiotic possibilities of abstraction to be both the signifier, and the signified. Intertwining our perception in a sonic and visual landscape of unfolding identity relationships, and urgent considerations.”
